Monday Musings with Mumista
While I was attempting to give Baby K a quick shower yesterday
Baby K : Mumma I can’t have a shower , only a bucket bath
Me : Why ? We have a bucket bath everyday , weekends are for masti showers K, you love them
Baby K : No , we are not allowed to use showers Mumma , it’s a waste of water
Me : ( After a pause, I tread carefully ) it’s fine K , Mumma has quick showers and once in a while it’s totally fine
Baby K : No Mumma , there’s deforestation and global warming and no water left. And lots of pollution. It’s yucky
Me : K , Mother Earth is so beautiful and we are a responsible family ( and I listed the conscious steps we take to ♻️ .. )
Baby K : ponders * No Mumma , It’s a mess You are lying
I suddenly felt a deep sense of loss for this sensitive kid ; he is burdened with climate troubles and planet woes . He rattles off destructive words like famines and heat waves but never talks about the beauty of stars and fireflies.
I know our kids are expected to be the caped crusaders who to save the world that we kinda demolished ( albeit many of us did unknowingly ) but please can we let them be carefree kids too
Can we teach them to live in moderation and not fill them with fear ( kids take every word uttered by adults as absolute gospel, it’s always black and white for them). Can we teach them how to reduce but not die of guilt if they use a tissue occasionally . To car pool whenever possible but use the car if Needed. To not pickup plastic bottles kept at birthday parties ( ahem mommies and daddies ) and to pack gifts with newspapers. Firm
No to fireworks and wasting food
One thing is to be a responsible citizen ( and I’m a avid supporter of all green revolutions) but another thing is to have them expect doomsday if they have a two minute shower
Let them be little .. please!
PS: Also , what about us adults and our careless leisurely , multiple showers 🤭
