Wow my grandfather was handsome in uniform! Benjamin Bennett Sr. Was in the Air Force. He contracted Scarlet and Rheumatic Fevers during WWII. This did permanent damage to his heart. He died in his 80s from these permanent war wounds. He was a musician, professional photographer, weaver, award winning square dancer, and wood carver. He’s not the only veteran in the family. I think he was quite proud that one of his grandchildren joined the Armed Forces.
I am retried from the Navy since the late 90s. That’s me at 18 in my Number 1 uniform, being inspected on the parade deck. This captain was not aware that women were Bos’n Mates, which had been an all male trade. He thought I had put the wrong trade patches on my uniform. This was actually a tense moment. The other photo I was not quite 19 in my summer whites. I was part of only 6% females in the military. I joined just after they changed the uniforms from standard greens for all to different coloured uniforms for the varying arms of the military. #remembranceday #canada #canadian #military #militaryservice #navy #airforce #worldwar2 #WWII #warinjury #womenintheforce #inspection #whites #number1 #memories
